Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) is a tall shrub or tree with light gray bark. Leaves are alternate, coarse-grained, pointed, dark green above. Young leaves below are planted with rusty brown hairs. Flowers develop in bunches of several pieces. A cup of flower is covered with brown hairs. The fruit is a light brown oval box, half enclosed in a cup.
